EURON-II (Network of Excellence) 'European Robotics Research Network'

EURON II is a direct continuation of the original European Robotics Network (EURON). It is a network of excellence under the 6th Framework Programme (FP6), funded as part of the Information Society Technologies (IST) Future and Emerging Technologies (FET) programme on "Beyond Robotics". EURON's objective is to implement and maintain a Network of Excellence that allows coordination of research, teaching and education, academic-industry collaboration, and publications and conferences in the area of robotics throughout Europe. EURON will also provide a primary portal for information about European robotics to other interested parties, such as journalists, and roboticists outside Europe.

Based on the Treaty establishing the European Union, the EU's Framework Programmes are serving two main objectives: strengthening the scientific and technological basis of industry and encourage its international competitiveness while promoting research activities in support of other EU policies.

Sixth Framework Programme - Service (2002-2006)

This service offers a step-by-step approach to help understand all activities as well as participation in European funding opportunities, for which 17.5 billion euro has been earmarked.

Information Society Technologies Priority

The objectives of IST (the Information Society Technologies) Priorityin FP6 are to ensure European leadership in generic and applied technologies at the heart of the knowledge economy. It aims to increase innova tion and competitiveness in European businesses and industry and to contribute to greater benefits for all European citizens.
